Staff at Beacon Bingo, Ilkeston, wanted to make the 92nd birthday of one of their most loyal customers, Betty Briggs, extra special this week [Thursday 15th June], so they threw her a party at the bingo hall she visits every single week, and has done since the club first opened in 1968.

The Beacon team arranged for Betty to be collected from her home in a chauffeur driven presidential stretch limo and driven in true style to the bingo hall on South Street. The VIP treatment continued when she arrived, with a bouquet of flowers and a beautifully set out party table ensuring it was a night to remember.

Commenting on the surprise, Betty said: “It was so wonderful that Dave and the rest of the staff have put this together to help me celebrate my birthday. I have made so any friends here at the bingo hall, both other players and the staff, I cannot thank them enough for making this evening so special.”

Dave Vernon, Ilkeston Beacon Bingo’s duty manager on the night, said: “As soon as we found out that it was Betty’s 92nd birthday we knew we just had to get something put together to help her celebrate it! It was a brilliant night and Betty was smiling the whole way through. She loved the ride in the presidential stretch limo on the way to bingo and was so surprised with the party table we had set out for her!”

“Bingo clubs like the one here in Ilkeston play an important role in the lives of a lot of people, many of who love the social aspect of coming out to play Bingo – and we love it to. So many of our customers are great friends and our staff are proud to call a lot of our regular customers friends as well. Therefore, celebrating Betty’s big birthday was important for everyone involved with Beacon Bingo here in Ilkeston.”

On the same night, it was also 87 year old Audrey Bell’s birthday, who has also played at the club since it first opened, which meant a double celebration with two party tables.
